Makerere university staff have been promised a 20% salary increament instead of the 100% as had been demanded by them.
University Vice Chancellor Dr. Ddumba Ssentamu said the University management had managed to locate shs.20b to bankroll a pay rise for the staff after undertaking a thorough reallocation of the budget.

Ddumba said the 100% pay rise is not possible since the University lacks resources to help it find the money to foot it.
The 20% increament will now push the University's annual budget to about shs.51b up from the current shs.31b.
The re-allocations were picked from budget funds meant for foreign travels, workshops, allowances and roads.
The University staff last week laid down their tools and went on a sit down strike demanding for a 100% salary increament, prompting the University council to close down the Institute.
Government has however given the Council only two weeks to have the University reopened to the public.
