Pope Francis, the new catholic church leader was on Tuesday officially inaugurated as the head of the world's largest and strongest faith, Catholicism replacing Pope emeritus Benedict XVI who resigned on February 28.
At the inauguration ceremony attended by tens of thousands of pilgrims from across the world, Pope Francis received the instruments of papacy to lead the church. The 266th successor to St Peter, considered the first Pope, also received from his cardinals the pallium — a lambswool strip of cloth that symbolises the Pope's role as a shepherd.
The "Fisherman's Ring" bestowed on him by Angelo Sodano, the dean of the college of cardinals, is a personalised signet ring traditionally worn by popes in honor of St Peter, considered as a shepherd.
Crowds had gathered from the early morning to see the enthronement of Latin American Cardinal in a rare ceremony laden with centuries-old rituals and lavish imagery.

Francis gave the thumbs-up to so joyous crowds and stopped to kiss babies, getting off the papal car at one point to bless a handicapped man. Several faithfuls have fallen in love with the Pope and say the Church will be closer to the people and to the modern world because of his character.
The former archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Mario Bergoglio has already won hearts in Rome with a disarmingly informal style which contrasted with Tuesday's pomp and glamour ceremony.
Pope Francis is the first Pope to come from Latin American, Argentina in Buenos Aires where he has been a Cardinal for a considerable period of time.
