Buganda Kingdom, in her drive to reconstruct the Kasubi Tombs that were set ablaze by unknown arsonists has raised over shs.140m in cash and pledges.
The reconstruction project is slated to begin early next year.
The Kasubi tombs that house the remains of Buganda's previous 4 kings, Walugembe Mutesa I, Basamula Mwanga, Daudi Chwa and Edward Mutesa II went it flames on the night of 16th March 2010 under unclear curcumstances with a conflicting report on the fire released by the government of Uganda.
The campaign code named; "Kasubi Masiro Gwanga Mujje" was launched at the Kingdoms administrative headquarters at Bulange-Mengo in Kampala.
During the event, sh22.93m was raised in cash, sh5.15m in cheque and sh114.63m in pledges. The money was raised from Buganda Members of Parliament, Kingdom officials, business community and Central government officials who were present at the function.
