Brigadier Elly Kayanja critically ill.

Former commander of "Operation Wembley" Brigadier Elly Kayanja has been admitted to hospital after he collapsed.

He was rushed to Case Clinic after collapsing from where he was transfered to Nakasero Hospital where he is under intensive care.

Close sources say the former commander is having a heart problem.

The former assistant coordinator of intelligence agencies was in a recent reshuffle deployed to Bombo General Army headquarters.

NRM Day Celebration 2013 Highlights.

The ruling National Resistance Movement/ Army (NRM/A) party celebrated her 27th liberation day anniversary on January 30 after it was postponed from its calendar date of Jan 26. The celebrations were at Nyakasanga play grounds,
Kasese District.

Presided over by Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, it was review the achievements of the ruling party for the past 27 years and draw strategies for economic transformation in the next years to come.

The president said that Uganda and other African countries have lagged behind the west because there are no industrial developments. 
“What Uganda and the rest of Africa lacks most are the factories. We were colonized because we lacked factories but not because of clans. Therefore if the lack of factories is solved all other issues will be easy to address”.

He said that problem of lack of proper actors in the industrialization of Uganda has also affected the process of finding capable investors to take on Kilembe Mines for the revamping of copper mining. Museveni blamed the delay of the revamping Kilembe mines to delayed an unnecessary procurement processes that have led to loss of suitable investors.

“There is a group of investors that has been coming here but they are being tossed around like house boys. Rich people are not supposed to be tossed here and there by some people in swinging chairs. Such people have delayed the process of Kilembe Mines”.

Museveni also pleged to fight on with the war against corruption and rid all public offices of what he called "thieves". The president said the fight against corruption is being affected by the Judiciary that grants bail to even the most wanted corruption core criminals.

“ I do not know why the judiciary is giving bail to every suspect. There is bail to everybody including the core criminals. We shall do legislation as politicians about this law to determine the categories of suspects supposed to be granted bails".Museveni warned.

Museveni warned the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels that are planning to regroup and invade Uganda to drop their plans because they "will be dealt with and crashed". He asked the people in the Rwenzori sub-region to forget about the ADF threat but rather concentrate on the cultivation of coffee and apples to enhance their household incomes and kick poverty once and for all.

At the celebrations, several people received medals as an appreciation for their contribution to the NRA/M struggles. The country's Former presidents were also recognised with the 50th National Independence Golden Jubilee medal.

Others awarded medals were Rwenzururu Kingdom King Mumbere Charles Wesley Ex-Kampala Mayor Christopher Iga, departed Industrialist James Mulwana Uganda Netball team that contested at the 1979 World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago, 1990 Commonwealth Gold Medalist and current Kampala Central Mayor, Godfrey Nyakana, the 1978 Uganda Cranes team, Olympic Men’s Marathon Gold Medalist Stephen Kiprotich and Renowned playwright Alex Mukulu.

The function was attended by religious, political and cultural leaders from across the country and dignitaries from Mozambique, Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo among others.

Corporal Rwakihembo sentenced for manslaughter.

A Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Lance Corporal, Herbert Rwakihembo has been sentenced to 30 years in jail over the killing of his wife Irene Namuyaba on December 10 2012 at Kisenyi zone III in
Luzira, Nakawa Municipality in Kampala.

Rwakihembo is attacked to Luzira Military barracks. He had just returned from a peace keeping mission in Somalia by the time he committed the murder. 

Two other people died in the shooting that was done using an AK 47 sub machine gun. These were Royce Kawendeke, and Nalongo Zaina Nassolo.

Herbert Rwakihembo will spend almost the
rest of his life in prison.

It is claimed that Rwakihembo committed the act out of anger after realising that the money he was sending to his wife was instead being spent by the wife to make other men happy. Some residents described him as a "Hero" and demanded for his release.

Mampi to rock Kampala on Valentines day.

Zambian born music Icon Mampi Mukape is to entertain Ugandan Music lovers on 14 February 2013, st valentines day in a show dubbed "Mampi-Swilili", a tittle to one of her maiden songs that has earned her cross border acclaim

Besigye and Lord Mayor Lukwago detained.

Opposition stalwarts Dr. Kiiza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago have been arrested and detained by police in Kampala over reports that they are inciting the public to cause mayhem around the
capital city.

The opposition leaders had been summoned by police to explain why they were planning an illegal exercise of cleaning up Kampala on the planned NRM liberation day celebrations.

The opposition parties under the "For God and my Country" pressure group made their mark at a press conference held at Katonga road in Kampala.

Police says all activities of the group are illegal and therefore all plans of the opposition leaders are punishable by law. They continue to say that the group is outlawed.

Dr  Besigye was picked from his Kasangati home early this morning and taken to Kiira police station.  Mr Lukwago is being held at Kiira Road police station.

Woman slaughterd at Nansana-Wakiso

A young enterprising woman was on Thursday morning found dead near her home in Nansana with a cut throat

Agnes Nalinya was found by neighbors who suspect that she might have been killed from somewhere and her body brought near her home. Blood stains were not found around this place raising fears that she was just brought after being killed from somewhere else.

This is among the latest murders that have rocked the country this year after a family of 9 was brutally murdered in Mityana by what police suspects it is a Terrorist group.

Police says investigations are underway to establish the motive of the murderers of Nalinya and have them apprehended and brought to book.

She owned a restaurant in the area and residents say her murder might have been due to business gone wrong or love gone wrong since she was a young single woman.

Makerere University holds 63rd graduation ceremony.

Makerere University on Tuesday started her 63rd graduation ceremony with over 10,000 students graduating with PHDs, Masters Degrees, Bachelors and Diplomas in various academic disciplines.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by the University Chancellor, Prof. Mondo Kagonyera assisted by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ddumba Sentamu at the University's freedom square.

Kagonyera cautioned the graduates to desist from corruption and associating themselves with people implicated in corruption related offenses.

He advised them to be very creative and innovative as they join the job market. He said practical courses enable students to be very innovative unlike academic courses especially Arts where students are only taught and left to fend for their future.

He continued that only the creative and innovative students will have a chance to find better employment looking at the competition in the job market.

There have been reports of forgeries of academic transcripts at Makerere and this has created a bad name about the institution in the public. Investigations into the alleged malpractices are on going and some of the culprits have already been apprehended.

Gen. Aronda warns Ugandans of possible Army takeover.

The Army Chief of staff Gen. Aronda Nyakairima has warned Ugandans not to doubt the Army's readiness to take over power from the current President      
Yoweri Museveni.


He was reacting to remarks made by the President at an earlier event that the  Army would take over leadership of this country.

“We are going about our normal business. I can’t do more than what they said. The message was well taken for those to who it was intended. Stand warned. Stand advised. Should you not change course, other things will be brought into play. Let no one return to the past. We have seen enough, almost 25 years of turmoil."

He made the remarks at a press briefing at the Army headquarters at Bombo.

Earlier, Defense Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga had warned Ugandans not to tempt the Army to fight on grounds that they have all the required ammunition to protect the country against all those greedy Ugandans who want to fulfill their selfish motives by misleading unsuspecting Ugandans. 

Dr Kiyonga, said that the army was watching and that there was a possibility that it could re-insert itself should the politicians in Parliament continue “not showing seriousness that they can solve the problems” facing the country.

These comments from the President and defence Minister have drawn condemnation from critics who say that the ground is being set for Mr Museveni to carry out a ‘palace coup’ and replace the current relative democratic order with an overt military government. 

The President and Dr Kiyonga have also been asked by the same critics to remember that Uganda is a democracy with an elected government.

Others have pointed out that the military is already an intimate part of the country’s political landscape with serving army officers deployed in non-traditional roles, and 10 representatives sitting in the House as army MPs.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and the Ministry of Education on Monday released the 2012 Primary Leaving Examinations with a
considerable improvement in performance.

Boys also performed better than girls. English was the best performed subject and Mathematics was the worst performed.

The traditional districts of Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Masaka led the list of best performing Districts. They were joined by others like Mbarara, Fortportal, Bushenyi, Kasese.
