The Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) has refuted claims that Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attacked Kasese District on Wednesday as it had been reported by several media houses in the country.
The Army says the the group of eleven people who entered Kasese on Wednesday were fugitives fleeing from the Congolese army-FARDC.
Army Spokesperson, Paddy Ankunda (File) |
Through the Army Spokesperson Paddy Ankunda, the UPDF described the reports as false and assured Ugandans of guaranteed security and that they need not to develop fear of any rebel attacks.
“Contrary to what was reported in the dailies, there was no attack on any area of Kasese,”Ankunda said.
He explained that the panic and false reports followed an incident Wednesday when, 11 fugitive soldiers of FARDC under the Command of Col Eric Bisamaza, illegally crossed into Uganda through the boarder point and were arrested by the UPDF troops in Bwera,Kasese District.
According to Ankunda, Bisamaza, had defected from the FARDC last month, and his group were fleeing to safety following a pursuit by the Congolese Army.
