The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) on Tuesday morning released the 2012 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results showing a tremendous improvement in performance compared to the year 2011.
The results were released at Statistics House by the UNEB Chairperson Fagil Mandy who handed them over to the Education and Sports Minister Hon. Jessica Alupo. Mandy thanked the press for accurate reporting and called it the largest school. He said it has caused critical thinking.
A total of 111.456 students sat the 2012 examinations of which 42.341 were female. The results also showed that girls performed much better than boys especially in Art subjects.
99.3% of the students who sat last year's UACE qualified for the Award of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
Kampala was the best performing District with 3,114 candidates with four principal passes, followed by Wakiso District with 2, 902, Mukono third with 913 and Masaka with 477.
There were high rates of examination malpractice especially in Fine Art recorded in last year's exams. UNEB has promised to blacklist all schools, teachers, school management committees and invigilators who indulge in examination malpractice.
Nagalama Muslim, Kampala Hall, Gomba College, Ambrolin College, Lugogo Hall, Valley College-Bushenyi, Sharing Centre-Kampala, Abim Academy and others have had their results with-held due to examination malpractices.
A total of 404 candidates will also not receive their results due to examination malpractice.
