Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has today released the 2012 Uganda Certificate of Education results that will see students move to the next
level of education.
The results showed a general decline in performance compared to 2011. According to Uganda National Examinations Board Executive Secretary Mathew Bukenya, there was a decline in both Division I and II, with however a slight improvement in Division three.
A total of 1,127 candidates had their results with-held by the examining body due to examination related Mal-practices. Leakage of examinations and other Mal-practices dropped by over 30% compared to 2011.
A total of 268,385 candidates registered for the 2012 examinations, showing a drop in the number of candidates as compared to 2011 which registered 273,363 candidates.
The best performed subjects were: History, Math, Geography and Biology. English language was the worst performed subject.
Wakiso was rated the overall best performing district in the country with over 10.000 candidates emerging in Division I, followed by Kampala.
Female candidates performed better than males in English and Literature. The Minister stressed that Sciences were poorly done especially Chemistry and this was attributed to lack of basics of attempting the subject.
