West Africa's Mali scoped third place in the 2013 edition of the African Cup of Nations tournament in South Africa after beating contenders of the same place Ghana 3-1 goals.
Ghana who failed to score a penalty shot, lost hope of taking third place after Mali Captain Seydou Keita hit the net in the last minutes of the second half to give Mali the ultimate win of third place of the tournament.
Ghana failed to clinch to the finals after a loss of the controversial semi-final match against Burkina Faso that ended with a 1 all draw. After the penalty shootouts, Ghana lost the match on 3-2.
Because of the controversy that marred the semi- final meet, Africa's football governing body CAF suspended the officiating referee Slim Jdidi over misconduct and improper refereeing of the semi-final match.
His conduct made many believe that he was on the side of Ghana after he awarded them a penalty that was not deserving and denied two of Burkina Faso's goals.
