Christians across the world on Wednesday started off the lent season that opens with the smearing of ash on their foreheads. The period prepares Christians for Easter day, the day at which they commemorate the agony, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ the Savior.
Christians are also expected to change their lifestyles during this period that runs for 40 days of fasting except Sunday.
In the early morning masses across churches, Christians were called upon to live lives that give glory and honor to God and to empress the three pillars of the lent season and these are, Praying, Fasting and doing charity. They are called upon to give to those who do not have and to help those that can't help themselves.
During this period, Wednesday's and Friday's are considered as Holy and Christians are not supposed to feast on meat on any of these day.
The lent season comes to an end on Easter Sunday with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
