The Head of the world's biggest Church, the Catholic Church Pope Benedict XVI on Monday announced he will be resigning the position as the come February 28 this year because his age prevented him from carrying out his duties, becoming the first Pope to resign in centuries.
The Germany born Pope, Joseph Ratzinger, 85 announced "I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry."
Pope Benedict, who has looked increasingly weak in recent months and often has to use a mobile platform to move around St Peter's basilica during Church services, had hinted in several of interviews in the recent years that he might resign if he felt he was no longer able to carry out his duties.
The last Pope to resign this position was Celestine V in 1296 who stepped down after just a few months in office saying he yearned for a simpler life and was not physically capable for the office.

Pope Benedict has been seen as a true successor of Pope John Paul II because of the way he conducts his duties as they are similar to the same ways Pope John Paul served the Catholic Church.
Tributes have come from allover the world wishing the Pope all the best for his next move.
