Today, the World marked the International Women's day under the theme "The Gender Agenda: Connecting Grassroots Women to Development".
Uganda held her celebrations of the day at Nakasongola with the main celebrant being the President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Museveni urged all women to engage in agriculture and other activities to enable them become self reliant instead of depending on their husbands.
At the celebrations, 27 women were honored for their tremendous contribution to women empowerment and women movements that have helped bring about equality in the ssociety.
He empasised that consultations need to be done before the Marriage and Divorce bill is passed by Parliament.
