President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni through the Ministry of Local government has indefinitely directed that a halt be put on creation of new Districts in the country saying there is no adequate funds to finance the operations of the Districts likely to be created.
The directive was given to the Minister of Local Government Mr. Adolf Mwesige, to withdraw the earlier motion he tabled in Parliament seeking the approval of 25 new districts.
President Museveni while meeting Members of Parliament on the Public Service and Local Government committee led by committee chairperson, Ms Florence Kintu, on Wednesday at State House, Entebbe revealed that only two districts of Kagadi and Kakumiro to be carved out of Kibaale district, which were budgeted for in the next financial year, would be created.
“Twenty-three proposed new districts will not be created because there is no money to fund them,” said Museveni.
