Suspended Catholic priest Father Anthony Musaala has hit back at the Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga and all those who criticise him for the open letter he wrote and authorised for publication in the various media channels that he does not regret what he did.
He has also vowed to appeal his suspension from all church duties by Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga before the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Michael Blume, the Pope’s ambassador in the country.
Father Musaala was on Tuesday suspended over a letter in which he called upon the Church to allow all Priests and Nuns to marry and to get married because most of them are involved in acts of child and sexual abuse.
He says some of the priests are engaging in acts of homosexuality, a fact that is tarnishing the name of the church. He goes further to point out that others have fathered children and have wives who they have abandoned so as not to be held accountable of their evil acts.
The Catholic Church does not allow priests or nuns to marry or get married and this is an oath that is swore by whoever joins the vocation.
According to Archbishop Kizito Lwanga, musaala's actions are an abuse of the code of conduct of the clergy men and women and “damages the good morals of the Catholic believers and faults the church’s teaching”.
In his statement, Archbishop Lwanga said, "This means, therefore, that Fr. Musaala because of the publication of his article in the public media which damages good morals of Catholic believers and further expresses a wrong teaching against the Catholic Church’s teaching and that this stirs up hatred and contempt against the Church, he incurs a Ferendae sententiae penalty as prescribed by Can.1314.
“This means that Father Anthony Musaala is suspended from celebrating sacraments and from the powers of governance in accordance to the law of the Church Can.1335 and1336 (1, 2and3) as investigations are being carried on.”
He has also vowed to appeal his suspension from all church duties by Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga before the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Michael Blume, the Pope’s ambassador in the country.
