The Vatican has announced that the process of electing the New Pope replacing Pope Benedict XVI who resigned on February 28 over ailing health and age, after centuries since the World saw a sitting Pope resign from the post.
The process will begin on March 12 2013 at the Vatican. This comes after 115 cardinals gathered at the Vatican for talks on the election of St. Peter's successor.
In a statement, the Vatican says the rules for the process of electing a Pope will be adhered to. Under the rules of the secret ballot, or conclave, cardinals will vote until one achieves a two-thirds majority.
Vatican staff have been preparing the Sistine Chapel, where the conclave will take place, installing the two stoves that will produce white smoke from burnt ballot papers when a new pope is elected.
