Suspended Catholic Priest Fr. Anthony Musaala |
“Fr. Anthony Musaala is suspended from celebrating sacraments and sacramentals, from the powers of governance in accordance with the law of the Church…as investigations are being carried out,” read the statement.
The letter claims that many Catholic priests and even Bishops are sexually abusing minors, have mistresses and have fathered children with several women who they are concealing or have abandoned.
The letter called for review of the issue of celibate chastity in the Catholic Church. The church law forbids all serving priests and sisters from marrying or getting married.
In a phone interview, Fr. Musaala said his letter was not intended to spoil the name of the church but to make it enforce reforms. He insisted that the contents of his letter are " Self explanatory" basing on the evidence he claims to be holding.
Fr. Musaala also said he had wished to have a discussion with the Archbishop to forge a way of getting rid of this vice that is likely to "eat off" the church.
Musaala in his own words says "In order to over come the evil of fathering children illegally, the church should allow Priests and Sisters (NUNS) to marry.
In his statement addressed to “People of God”, Lwanga said; “I deeply think of the immense suffering caused by the article produced in the media authored by Fr. Anthony Musaala, that seemed to be casting a dark shadow of suspicion on all priests.”
“On behalf of my fellow Catholic bishops in Uganda, I wish to assure the public that as leaders of the Catholic Church in Uganda, we are committed to the protection of the minors and rights of everyone. Investigations about these allegations are to begin immediately.” further read the statement.
