The five Mayors of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)'s five Divisions were on Friday given free Pathfinder vehicles valued at over shs.100 million each to help them in the running of the affairs of KCCA in their respective divisions and to also ease the movement of the Division Mayors.
The handover of the vehicles was presided over by Minister for the Presidency who also doubles as the Minister in charge of Kampala Hon. Frank Tumwebaze at a colorfull ceremony attended by the Division Mayors and the Deputy Lord Mayor Sulaiman Kidandala who had come with high hopes of receiving a car as well but his name was not read.A Nissan Pathfinder on the road. Mayors will be cruising in these vehicles in their divisions. |
The Divisons are Makindye Division headed by Dr. Ian Clarke, Central Division headed Godfrey Nyakana Amooti, Nakawa Division led by Benjamin Kalumba Ssebuliba, Kawempe Division headed by Mubarak Munyagwa and Lubaga Division headed by the only lady Mayor, Joyce Ssebugwawo
The Mayors welcomed the move and promised to use the vehicles as required to foster growth and development in their Divisions.
Kawempe Division Mayor Munyagwa however said the vehicles were not necessary at this material moment since the people of Kampala still have so many issues that need urgent attention. He proposed that the money that was used to buy the vehicles should have been used to slove the problems facing KCCA. He said he will pack his car at home and let the children play from it.
