2012 Olympic marathon gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich finished in sixth position at the London Marathon over the weekend. The 42km race was won by Ethiopia’s Tsegaye Kebede ahead of Kenya's Mutai and Biwott, with a time of 2:06:03.
Kiprotich clocked 2:08:05, a time much slower than when he won the 2012 London Olympic Marathon.
Kiprotich was optimistic to come out a victor before the race but was however disappointed by the result.
“I’m very happy to come and compete in this marathon, I don’t have any pressure for me. I just feel proud. In the competition everything is possible. I always believe everything is possible.” Kiprotich told reporters before the race.
The London marathon took place amid tighter security, after the Boston Marathon bomb attack. Runners observed a moment of silence before the start of the Marathon race for the victims of the Boston marathon bombing.
