On Thursaday April 18, President of the Republic of Uganda launched the Uganda Vision 2040 that will see Uganda being transformed from a peasant Country to a modern and prosperous country by the clock of the year 2040.
The Uganda Vision 2040 was launched at the Kololo independence ceremonial grounds and will move on under the theme;
"Transforming Uganda from a Peasant to a Modern and Prosperous Middle Income Country".
The Uganda Vision 2040 is aimed at increasing the annual per-capita income of all Ugandans from the current rate of approximately USD 400 annually to USD 9,500 annually and this will foster improvement of the standard of living.
The Vision projects the transformation of Uganda from a Peasant Economy to a lower middle income Country by 2017, Upper Middle Income Country by 2031 and achieve full transformation to a Modern and Prosperous Country by the year 2040.
To achieve this Vision, President Museveni highlighted that there is need to train the available youthful labour force to compete in the labour market both within and outside the country, ensure maintained Peace and Security both within the country and with the neighbouring countries.
Also Improvement of infrastructure in the road, railway sectors, ensure application of a modern HI-Tech system of operation, implement the growth of the Oil refinery and Energy sectors, ensure proper accountability especially in all government headed sectors, revamp the urbanisation policy that will see the creation of five Regional Cities, three Strategic Cities and have 10 International Airports constructed across the Country were highlighted.
According to the President, "The country is unstoppable" and will definitely achieve this Vision by the projected period.
The Uganda Vision 2040 was drawn by the National Planning Authority together with the Private Sector Foundation.
