Millions of money worth merchandise were last night lost as fire gutted yet another part of St. Balikuddembe commonly known as Owino Market located in the City center of Kampala.
The fire is believed to have started at around 11 pm. The cause of the fire could not be established by press time.
Thousands of youth who at the time of the fire were still in the market tried all they could to save their merchandise but all in vain.
Police fire brigade was called in to put the fire off. Traders however complained that it took the fire brigade over an hour to get to the market yet they are very close to the market.
Owino has in recent years been burnt by unknown arsonists. No report about the investigations into the cause of the fires in the market has however been availed to the public.
Many of the traders in the market operate on Bank loans to keep their business moving. The pain of losing the little they use for their survival made many of the traders shed tears in dismay, pondering the next move to take.
