The wife to the late Relief and Disaster Preparedness Minister and Member of Parliament for Butebo Constituency in Pallisa District Beatrice Asibo Mallinag has been nominated by the NRM party to participate in the party primaries that may see her replace her late husband.
Asibo's nomination was confirmed by the National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission Chairperson Elijah Dickens Mushemeza who declared her as a dully nominated candidate on Thursday.
It seems to have become a practice in Uganda's politics where dead MPs are getting replaced by close family members, with the recent one being Florence Nebanda who replaced her sister Cerinah Nebanda who died late last year under unclear circumstances.
Other MPs who have made it to Parliament by replacing their deceased family members are Prscovia Alengat who replaced her father, Ssebunya Robert Kasule who replaced his father, Kibirige Ssebunya among others.
John Ken Lukyamuzi forwarded his daughter after he was fired from Parliament over failure to declare his wealth to the IGG on time. He has since returned to Parliament as MP for Rubaga South constituency.
The elections are scheduled for 6 June 2013.
