The board of Directors of Busoga College Mwiri together with Jinja District Authorities on Saturday resolved to close the school indefinitely, afew days into second term, after students went on strike that later turned out to be violent and led to destruction of school properties.
Students from the school on Friday night matched peacefully to Jinja town but were intercepted by Police, an act that annoyed them and they suddenly turned rowdy.
In a meeting held on Saturday and attended by members of the school founding body, Busoga Diocese, members of the Parents and Teachers’ Association, the school administration and members of the district security committee, it was resolved that keeping students at the school would be risky.
The students complained of ill treatment, poor feeding, poor living conditions, poor health conditions at the school, unfair school fees hike among others.
They claimed school was increased from shs.450,000 to shs.780,000 yet the situation especially diet and hygiene were still poor at the school.

Mwiri is one of the best performing schools in the Eastern District of Jinja and also competes with other schools on the National level.
