Kasese District is at the verge of experiencing hunger after the devastating floods that hit the District on May 1st and swept away gardens, destroyed property worth millions and displaced thousands of people.
Farmers say the fertile soils that support agriculture which most of the residents live on were swept away and the current soils therefore are more likely not to support the growth of crops.

A bridge destroyed by the floods. |
In the areas where the floods did not hit, crops are drying up because ever since the floods, the District has not experienced adequate rains to support agriculture.
Farmers are crying foul after investing alot in G.nuts and maize growing which are likely to generate negative results.
More so, transportation of merchandise is still difficult since most of the bridges that were swept away during the floods have not yet been reconstructed.
Kyarumba for example which is one of the top food producers in the District had its access cut off areas of Kisinga, Munkunyu, Bwera, after her bridge was swept away. This means that merchandise to these areas has to pass through the Kasese-Bwera main route, which is costly for many farmers.
Uganda National Roads Authority is yet to reconstruct the destroyed bridges in the District.
