Kampala City which is always a hive of activity on almost every day has gone quiet after traders went on strike over the government's proposal to impose and implement the pre-inspection of goods programme saying it will affect their business operations and profits.
The traders under their Umbrella association Kampala City Traders Association(Kacita), say the Government has already imposed heavy taxes on them and this new one is uncalled for.
The strike has now entered Day Two amid fears that if nothing is done to avert the situation, it may escalate into chaos.
Kacita spokesperson Issa Ssekitto said they are to meet with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives. Amelia Kyambadde Anne on Wednesday to forge a way forward.
He said if Government does not adhere to the traders' demands, then as traders, they will opt for an alternative course of action.
Security is so tight in and around the city to counter any possibilities of chaos.
