Newly appointed Minister for Internal Affairs Gen. Aronda Nyakairima was on Wednesday handed the office by the outgoing Minister Hillary Onek who is now running the Relief and Disaster Preparedness Ministry.
Aronda pledged to offer all his full support towards national building and deal with key Government Projects under the Ministry.
Aronda was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni during a recent cabinet reshuffle. His approval was however an issue of debate in Parliament after it was revealed that Aronda had refused to resign from the Army before taking over the post, as is required by the Constitution.
He was later controversially approved by the Parliament appointments committee led by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, causing chaos in the house that forced opposition Members of Parliament to walk out.
Aronda was then hurriedly sworn in by President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe along side Elioda Tumwesigye, State Minister for Health.
