"Was it an operation gone wrong or was it a plot to eliminate him?" this is the question on the lip of many residents of Bulenga, a Kampala suburb where a Police officer was on Wednesday night shot dead by a colleague who they together had gone for an operation to foil a planned robbery.
There had been reports that a group of thugs was planning to rob a hardware shop in Bulenga so Police had to deploy to get hold of the thieves. However as the operations was on going, it is alleged that the killed officer emerged from the direction of the thugs and was shot about 13 times, according to eyewitnesses.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi confirmed the death of the officer and said investigations are ongoing to ascertain the events that could have led to the death of the officer.
Ssenkumbi said they were holding the OC of Bulenga Police Post because he is the one who led the operation.
He is currently under police custody and is being questioned.
