The results of the DNA tests conducted on the bodies of the victims of the Namungoona fuel tanker inferno, burnt beyond recognition were on Monday released by Mulago hospital to ascertain the true identities of the dead bodies.
Wails filled Mulago mortuary as the Police revealed the identities of the eight bodies after over one week of waiting.

The delay to release the results had caused rife among relatives of the deceased with many fighting for the bodies and claiming to be the rightful relatives of the deceased.
"The other two remaining bodies are going to be kept in the mortuary until we get the persons whose DNA results match the bodies,” Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, the Mulago Police Director of Medical services said.
“We have successfully gone through this process without a lot of challenges. Six out of the eight bodies matched the rightful tests we did".
The Kampala Metropolitan Police commander, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, who addressed some of the bereaved, assured the mourners that the tests had been carried out professionally and transparently to make sure there are no fights over bodies.
Over 40 people perished in a fire along the Northern bypass at Namungoona when a car collided with a fuel tanker, causing it to spill fuel and later busting into flames, burning all those who had come near it to siphon the spilling fuel. It is claimed that most of the victims were Boda boda cyclists who wanted to make an extra earning from the accident.
President Yoweri Museveni visited the scene of the accident and later proceeded to Mulago hospital to pay tribute to the victims. He pledged shs.5m to each of the families that had their relatives involved in the accident.
