Uganda's only Gold Medalist at the 2012 London Olympics Competition Stephen Kiprotich has been awarded a medal of recognition for his achievements at the 2012 London event and there after from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The medal was presented to Kiprotich by State Minister for Sports Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi on behalf of IOC at a hand over ceremony that took place at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) offices in Lugogo on Friday night.
Kiprotich celebrates with the Ugandan flag raised high after winning the Men's Marathon at the 2012 London Olympics. |
Kiprotich became the second athlete to win a gold medal at an Olympics event after John Akii Bua's medal close to 40 years back.
The special medal is usually given to excelling sportsmen in recognition of their contribution to sports.
Kiprotich emerged sixth at the recently concluded Virgin London Marathon. He said the medal is a true honour to him from the IOC.
