International Journalists running for their dear lives after a tear gas canister was thrown at them by Police at Monitor Head Offices. |
Its one week since Uganda Police besieged and closed two media houses over what has now become the controversial sejusa letter written by the Coordinator of Intelligence services in Uganda and Senior Presidential Adviser Gen David Sejusa Tinyefuza.
Daily Monitor and Red pepper publications were closed on Monday 20th and have since not been allowed to print any newspapers.
On the second day of peaceful demonstrations by Journalists to prompt the police to vacate their offices, tear gas has been used by Police to disperse the Journalists.
Today, the Monitor premises were sealed off and no individual was allowed access to the same.
It is also claimed that some journalists were bitten by these police personnel despite growing criticism from both local and international Human rights activists of the continued Police siege and closure of the media houses.
The Journalists under their umbrella association, Uganda Journalists Association have resolved to seek court redress to force Police off their premises.
