The newly appointed Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister (Katikiro) Charles Peter Mayiga was on Wednesday handed the Kingdom's official Mace (Ddamula) by His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Kabaka of Buganda at Lubiri Mengo palace.
The Mace was handed over to Mayiga amid cheers and praising songs from Loyalists especially those from he heart (Mutiima) clan where Mayiga belongs.
The Ddamula is a symbol that the new Katikiro has accepted to serve the Kingdom and protect her interests at all times.
By 7am EAT, thousands of Buganda loyalists had gathered at the Palace to witness the function which according to the Baganda is a milestone function that out to be awarded due respect.
After the handover, it was a battle of strength as subjects paved way for the Mace to be taken to the official Katikkiro home called Butikiro.
Mayiga promised to serve the Kingdom with all strength and reclaim all that has been "stolen" from the Kingdom.
