Hundreds of residents from the Kilembe Mines area in Kasese are counting loses and pondering their next move after heavy rains characterised by floods hit their are on Labour day and destroyed property worth millions of shillings and leaving roads and bridges destroyed, affecting the transport system to and from the area.
The rains that started at around 3am in the wee hours and went up to 5pm forced the area's biggest river, River Nyamwamba to break her banks and spread to the outside parts of Kilembe mines Hospital, Nyakasanga, Kizungu, airstrip area.
Kilembe Mines Hospital staff quarters were also swept away by the rains, leaving many Doctors and Nurses stranded.
The Patients in the Hospital had to be ferried to other health centres to continue with treatment and save their lives
According to a statement from the district Local Council V chairperson Capt. Dula Mawa, the rains killed 4 residents including a former officer of the Kasese Municipal Council Paddy Kahuju.
There are fears however that the death toll may rise since other people are said to still be buried in the rubble.
