Another Mobile Money agent was on Saturday night murdered in cold blood at his home in Nansana-Yesu Amala, a Kampala suburb. The thugs then took off with money close to shs.20 million.
It is said that Kitanda Kayita Musirimwa had just received the money from a Mobile Money service provider as a financial support to help him expand his Mobile Money businesses and pay off all his workers.
Police says no arrests have been made in regard to the murder. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Ibin Ssenkumbi yesterday said investigations had been launched to ascertain the motive of the killers.
“We are still investigating the killing. We can’t accept such attacks on people to continue in the city,” said Ssenkumbi.
Kitanda is the fifth mobile money agent to be killed in Kampala since the year started. Kitanda died on his way to the Hospital.
Attacks on Mobile Money agents are on the rise due to the fact that they hold large sums of money but have no security for it. Their business boom in the evening hours after banks have closed. They keep their money in houses where there is no security.
