Following the heavy rains that were experienced in Bududa District late last week, leading to landsliding and subsequent destruction of properties, the Ministry of Relief and Disaster preparedness is yet to deliver relief items to the people of the area.
State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Musa Ecweru said the Office of the Prime Minister had completed assessment of the impact of the Disaster and was in the final stages of making the deliveries.
Bududa and the Mt Elgon area are landslide prone areas. In 2011, Bududa was hit by a terrible landslide that led the death of thousands of people and destruction of properties worth millions.
Government has been asked to expedite the evacuation and relocation process of the people of Bududa and the Elgon area to avert the likely effects of a huge crack that has been seen developing on Mt. Elgon.
