The Uganda Medical and dental practitioner's Council on Tuesday resolved to expel a medical Doctor over claims that he was involved in the stealing and swapping of kids upon their birth at the Mulago National Referral Hospital over 7 years ago.
According to the Council, Dr. Asingya Kapuru is banned from practicing Medical for a period of Two years.
The Council's President Dr. Joel Okello told the press that Dr. Asingya Kapuru who at the time of the incident was a student at the National Hospital signed a document that a mother-Sauda Nakiibi, had given birth to a dead child.
Sauda however became suspicious from the first day and logged in a complaint with Police who conducted their investigations and concluded that indeed the child she was given to go and bury was not her true child.
Police did a DNA test on the body samples of the said dead child and Sauda and found no match between the two. Sauda claims the child she gave birth to was a live baby boy but was shocked to be handed a dead baby girl.
Mulago Hospital PRO, Enock Kusasira, also confirmed the report about the incident and said Mulago Hospital is doing all they can to avert the many cases of chirld theft that have rocked the hospital for several years and led to the tarnishing of the government Hospital's image.
Dr. Kapuru is currently serving at Kagando Hospital in Kasese District.
