The woes of Africa's number 10 and Uganda's Top Learning Institution, Makerere University seem not to be coming to an end soon.
In the latest information, the University staff who last week laid down their tools over poor pay have rejected the 20% salary inreament that was announced by the University's vice Chancellor, Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu on Thursday.
Addressing the press at the senior staff canteen, Louis Kakinda, the spokesperson of the staff, said they would not settle for anything less than 100%.
“We do not care where and how the council finds the money to implement the 100% pay increment,” said Kakinda.
In May, the council endorsed a 100% pay raise for all Makerere staff, only for the idea to be rejected by the finance ministry over lack of adequate resources.
Government has however made it open to the staff that a 100% pay rise is not possible and through the Sports and Education Minister, Hon. Jessica Alupo has ordered the University Council top have the Institution opened in two weeks.
