Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Rt. Dr. Col. Kiiza Warren Besigye has said the opposition is doing a great job towards the socio-economic and political transformation of this Country and is therefore on a good course.
Speaking during an interview on a local Television talk show (Barometer), Besigye said the rush by the Government to pass the controversial Public Order Management Bill (POMB) is a reaction to the public's awareness campaigns launched by the Opposition Political parties.
Besigye said government is in fear of the fact that the Public is tired of the NRM's rule and is likely to rise against them (NRM) so they decided to pass the POMB so as to scare away Ugandans from raising up in arms against what he termed as "Dictatorial Government".
He wondered why a President like Museveni should carry sacks of money distributing it to people instead of giving them tips on how to be self reliant and fight poverty. "Museveni should think about providing social services to the people and look for market for their agricultural produce".
"How can he claim to be supporting agriculture yet he can not look for market for the produce"? Besigye wondered.
He stressed that President Museveni and his government have continuously abused and used tax payers' money for political activities. He sighted the recent revelation to the Public Account Committee of Parliament by leaders of several Ugandan markets that the money given to them prior to the 2011 Presidential elections was not a loan but a gift to vote for President Yoweri Museveni and therefore did not know that this money had to be paid back. Over shs.10 billion was lost in this scam.
Feud in the FDC Party.
Asked about the party Presidential elections and the chaos that rocked the vote and after, Besigye said despite the few irregularities during the party elections, theirs was free and fair. He said there was a misconception on the duration of the Presidential term.
He stressed that some people thought Mugisha Muntu was to take on the Presidency and finish Dr. Kiiza Besigye's term of office of two years while others had it in mind that he was to take on a full five year term. It is from this that fracas erupted in the party over disaggrements on the term of office.
Besigye refuted claims that the FDC Party was at the verge of collapse as revealed by several media houses saying all this is propaganda spread by NRM which has problems within their party and therefore want the public to feel like all Political parties have wrangles within their circles.
He continued that FDC is a strong party that has managed to sustain all its activities using her own funds unlike the NRM which uses government funds to finance her activities.
He promised to iron-out all the electoral errors that characterised the Party elections at Nambole Stadium, which saw Gen. Mugisha Muntu take up the position of Party President.
Party plans.
He said FDC is now concentrating on building strong Party structures which are vital in their quest for this country's liberation.
Besigye stressed that their aim is to liberate Uganda and ensure that it effectively grows and becomes a middle class income Country as early as possible. He said this is possible if a small government structure is maintained. This is in reference to the many Ministers, Parliamentarians, RDC, Advisors that President Museveni has, which he said is a waste of National resources in form of maintenance and salaries to these people.
He said his government would concentrate on improving the Health sector, Agriculture (Revive Co-operative unions), Infrastructure and ensure zero tolerance to corruption. This he said will be done by ensuring that all public servants declare all the wealth they possess, which lacks with the NRM government.
