2012 Olympic and 2013 IAAF World Championships Men's Marathon Gold Medalist, Stephen Kiprotich (24) on Monday received a Hero's welcome from government officials, his fans and fellow staff with the Uganda Prisons services at Entebbe International Airport upon return from the Moscow Championships.
Aboard an Emirates Airlines Plane, Kiprotich touched the Entebbe Airport ground after 2pm and held a brief press conference and was later driven off in a personalised Limousine to State House Entebbe, where he had a dinner with the Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, Ministers, and his family members.
Kiprotich was received at the Airport by Education and Sports Minister Hon. Jessica Alupo and The Uganda Prisons Boss Dr Johnson Byabashaija.
Kipotich won Gold at the just concluded IAAF World Championships held in the Russian Capital Moscow, in the Men's Marathon after beating off pressure from two Ethiopians who had given him a hard time.
He thanked Ugandans for the support they accorded him during the race."I do not have much to say, apart from thanking Ugandans for their support”
Kiprotich said the Moscow win was a correction of the mistakes he made at the London Marathon where he finished in sixth place.
He has assured his fans of a medal at the 2014 Brazil Olympics competitions.
