Thousands of Muslim faithfuls in Uganda on Thursday joined the rest of the World in celebrating Eid El-Fitri, a celebration on the Islamic calendar that marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadhan.
The Celebrations were held at the various mosques in the Country with most of the preachers calling for Peace and Reconciliation in the Country.
At the Gaddafi Mosque at Old Kampala, Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje called on all Muslims to live as brothers in peace and to respect each other. He thanked President Yoweri Museveni for signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Buganda Kingdom that will see the Kingdom have back most of her properties that were lost during the Obote and Idd Amin eras.
Mubajje however regretted Parliament's decision to pass the Public Order Management Bill saying it will not only affect the Opposition Politicians who are the main target but will also affect the NRM leaders. He said such a Bill is against the fundamental Human rights and therefore should not have been passed.
At Kibuli Mosque Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo called upon the Police force to stop using tear gas to disperse Muslim crowds and peaceful demonstrators. He also called upon the Police to stop mistreating Muslims by arresting them on minor issues.
The "grandfather" of the Islamic faith in Uganda, Prince Kassim Nakibinge called upon government to stop closing down Muslim faith based Schools saying the too provide equal learning opportunities to children just like any other schools.
At the Nakivubo stadium where the Tablique held their Eid prayers, Muslims were called upon to empress and promote education in their communities as it is the best way they can have a share of the National Cake.
The Celebrations were attended by Politicians, Civil servants, Businessmen and many other Ugandans.
