Be mindful when you visit Uganda's Mulago Hospital |
Today, a lady revealed to The Edge Uganda that she got the biggest shock of her life when she was told that she had been conned by a woman claiming to have lost her child from the Hospital and needed help.
How it Started.
LB (not real names) says she had gone to check on a friend who had a patient at the Hospital when She was intercepted by a woman holding a body of a dead baby, asking for facilitation to take the body for burial somewhere in Rukungiri.
As a mother, she was touched by the woman's pleas and pulled out a shs. 50,000 (Equi. $20) and handed it to this lady. When she shared the ordeal with the friend, she was told she had been defrauded.
Reports say that these fraudsters connive with the Staff at the Mortuary. The staff release dead bodies to these Women to use and make some money, which at the end of the day, is shared between them (Mortuary staff) and the Women who look for the money.
All these crimes are going on at the Hospital even with the Knowledge of the administrators but nothing is being done to clear these vices.
Child theft, theft of dead bodies, theft of Hospital property, bribery, corruption, sexual harassment of staff, are some of the several crimes going on at the Hospital, yet unattended to.
